Zips come back
to beat Duquesne

Akron (23-19) sent 12 batters to the plate in the top of the ninth inning to erase a five-run lead and beat Duquesne 9-7 in baseball at Duquesne Field in Pittsburgh. Trailing 7-2 entering the last inning, the Zips got a little help from the Duquesne (21-24-1) defense, which committed two errors in the inning and five overall.

Senior Kurt Davidson led off the inning by reaching base on an error; the next batter, senior Doug McNulty, was hit by a pitch. Sophomore Brian Kordal and senior Vince Chiera then hit back-to-back doubles. Davidson, McNulty and Kordal all scored to make it 7-5. A Matt Roberts walk and a Phil Bednar single loaded the bases for freshman Keene Marstrell, who reached on an error. The Duquesne blunder scored two runs to tie the score at 7-7. Sophomore Kevin Haas and McNulty added RBI singles.
