Zeke Marshall to join UA's basketball program

Zeke Marshall, one of the premier junior centers in the nation, has agreed to join the University of Akron men's basketball program.
Marshall, a 7-footer from McKeesport Area (Pa.) High School, is rated No. 11 at center and No. 61 as an overall player nationally in the current junior class by Scout.com.
Rick Klimchock, who has coached Marshall for the past two years with the AAU Pittsburgh Storm, confirmed that Marshall recently gave an oral commitment to the Zips.
''He really liked the coaching staff and the (short) distance from home,'' Klimchock said. ''He liked it because he felt he could become an impact player at Akron and that it is strong in computers. He liked what the school had to offer athletically and educationally.''
Marshall averaged 10 points, 11 rebounds and nine blocked shots for a McKeesport team that had two senior scorers who probably will be playing college basketball in the future.
''He is known for his physical skills. He has a long wingspan and has been a shot blocker,'' Klimchock said. ''He is a smart player with a real feel for the game. He has really improved his shooting.''
Marshall will not officially become a Zip until he signs a NCAA Division I letter of intent in November. UA coach Keith Dambrot cannot comment on Marshall until then.
Marshall also considered Pitt, Duquesne, Virginia and Virginia Tech, according to Scout.com.
