University of Akron running back Andrew Johnson has been released from the hospital, but will not play this week at Kent State.
Johnson, a senior, was hurt in the third quarter of Saturday's 17-15 loss to the University of Cincinnati. Play was stopped for about 15 minutes and he was taken from the Rubber Bowl in an ambulance.
Initially, it was believed he suffered a neck injury, but tests at St. Thomas Hospital in Akron showed it was ''stingers'' to both shoulders. He was released Saturday night.
''He has full movement in his arms and legs,'' UA coach J.D. Brookhart said Monday. ''He is doing OK. He is in some pain. He is in a neck brace right now.''
Brookhart said it is too early to tell if Johnson will miss more than the Kent State game. He also said he will decide by mid-week who will take Johnson's spot as backup to starter Dennis Kennedy.

University of Akron sophomore Steve Zakuani was named Monday to the National Team of the Week by College Soccer News.
The forward, who has seven goals on the season, scored his third game-winner in a 1-0 victory Saturday against Stony Brook at Lee Jackson Field.
Zakuani leads the Mid-American Conference in every offensive category: shots (36), goals (7) and points (18).
The Zips (6-1-2), who were ranked ninth in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas poll last week, will travel to Northern Illinois for an 8:30 p.m. match Saturday.
