Sugar Plum Home Tour 2008
Published on Wednesday, Oct 08, 2008
Officials from the University of Akron and Penn State are negotiating to have their football teams open the 2009 season.
The game would be at Penn State's Beaver Stadium on Sept. 5, two weeks before the Zips play Indiana in the first game at InfoCision Stadium.
Newspaper reports in Pennsylvania have the deal as being done, but UA athletic director Mack Rhoades said that is not true. ''We would like it to happen, but nothing has been signed,'' he said.
If the deal is completed, it would be the fourth time that the Zips have opened a season at Penn State. UA lost 70-24 in 1999, 48-10 in 2004 and 34-16 in 2006.

Whatta shame. . . . if it happens . . . another shellacking for Akron . . . what's the point? . . . . . money, I suppose. Wouldn't it be something if Mount Union came up here and walloped the Zips>
