MAC champs to play North Carolina State, Drake, Howard, Texas A&M, Wyoming and Rhode Island

The University of Akron on Tuesday announced a 15-game nonconference schedule for the 2009-10 men's basketball season.
The Zips, who were 23-13 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history last season, will have nine of the nonconference games at home.
The schedule also includes an appearance in the Glenn Wilkes Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla., and a road game against Big 12 opponent Texas A&M.
''I like this schedule and it falls in line with my philosophy,'' said coach Keith Dambrot, whose team won its first MAC Tournament title in 2008-09. ''We have games against quality competition in a neutral setting and are heavy with home games.
''Spending most of the nonleague season at home should have its payoff during the conference schedule.''
The Zips open the season in the 10-team Glenn Wilkes Classic with a home game on Nov. 15 against Austin Peay. That will be followed by tournament games at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach against North Carolina State (Nov. 20), Drake (Nov. 21) and Howard (Nov. 22).
Two home games will follow and then the Zips will play at Texas A&M on Dec. 4. The Aggies have made four consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including 2008-09.
''It's an exciting challenge for our players to compete against teams like Texas A&M and N.C. State,'' Dambrot said.
The Zips then have five home games, a road game at Wyoming and close the nonleague season at home against Rhode Island.
During the weekend of Feb. 20, UA will participate in the ESPNU BracketBusters and will be on the road for the second consecutive season. The opponent will be announced in early February.
The Zips' nonconference schedule features six teams that competed in the postseason in 2009 Texas A&M (NCAA), Niagara (NIT), Rhode Island (NIT), Wyoming (College Basketball Invitational), Austin Peay (CollegeInsider.com), and Drake (CollegeInsider.com).
The MAC schedule will begin in early January and will be announced at a later date.

FEAR THE ' ROO. . .
Not bad...could definetly use some more top tier mid major teams and some mid to low level 'name' teams(i.e. Penn State, OSU, etc)
Another 20 win schedule with NIT written all over it- Dambrot's philosophy- is the Boeheim Cupcake philosophy. The Roo will fail miserably this year-Humpty will have a great fall!
