Dayton 94, Akron 80
Hanna Luburgh scored 37 points and Rachel Tecca (Archbishop Hoban) added 25 points for the University of Akron in a 94-80 loss to No. 23 Dayton on Friday at the University of Dayton Arena. The Zips (2-1) led 45-41 at halftime, but were outscored 53-35 in the second half by the Flyers (2-1).
Anita Brown scored 10 points and Luburgh grabbed 11 rebounds for the Zips. Luburgh and Tecca each had three steals, and Kacie Cassell led the Zips with six assists.
The Zips are 0-7 against the Flyers, including a 90-59 loss last season at Rhodes Arena.
Luburgh’s 37 points put her eight points shy of 1,000 for her collegiate career. She would become the third player on the Zips’ current roster with 1,000 career points, joining Tecca and Sina King.
The Zips will stay in the Dayton area and play Wright State at 2 p.m. Sunday.
