No. 10 Florida 24, Toledo 6
Toledo played No. 10 Florida tough but couldn’t do much against the Gators offense, eventually losing in sweltering heat on the road.
The Rockets could only muster 205 yards of offense but late in the first half were only trailing by a single score, 10-3. With 3:20 left in the second quarter, Florida running back Mack Brown found the end zone from 14 yards out, making it 17-3, and the Gators cruised from there.
Toledo was also only 1-of-13 on third-down conversions.
Terrance Owens completed 17-of-38 passes for 155 yards with an interception. David Fluellen ran nine times for 46 yards, including a 28-yard burst. Bernard Reedy caught seven passes for 50 yards.
Florida totaled 414 yards of offense, including 262 on the ground.
Eastern Michigan 34, Howard 24
Eastern Michigan scored the final 21 points to power past Howard and start the season 1-0 at home.
Led by 202 yards rushing, Howard held a 24-13 lead late in the third quarter.
Eastern Michigan running back Bronson Hill finished with 101 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns. Jackson had 64 yards on seven carries and a touchdown.
Junior EMU quarterback Tyler Benz was 19-of-26 passing for 210 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
Marshall 52, Miami 14
After entering halftime tied 14-14, Marshall scored the final 38 points en route to a blow out of Miami at home.
The Thundering Herd ran for 304 yards and outgained in offensive yards Miami 591-239. Quarterback Rakeem Cato threw for five touchdowns.
