MAC roundup: Toledo, Bowling Green and Ohio win; Miami and Eastern Michigan fall

Toledo 38, 
Central Michigan 17

David Fluellen rushed for 197 yards and two touchdowns to lift Toledo to a road win over Central Michigan in a Mid-American Conference game.

Fluellen had 32 carries as Toledo (2-2, 1-0 MAC) emphasized its running game against Central Michigan (1-3, 0-1). The Rockets piled up 252 yards rushing and 166 in the air, including a 3-yard touchdown pass from Terrance Owens to Alonzo Russell in the second quarter.

Central Michigan was held to 156 yards rushing, which included a 1-yard touchdown run by Saylor Lavalli in the second quarter.

Cincinnati 14, Miami 0

Hosey Williams’ 1-yard touchdown run broke a scoreless tie with 4:55 to go, and self-destructive Cincinnati beat Miami of Ohio (0-3) on the road for its eighth straight win in the rivalry.

Cincinnati (3-1) put together a 16-play drive — its only notable one of the game — that culminated in Williams’ score. Quarterback Brendon Kay ran through a tackle to convert a third-down play and set up the touchdown.

After an interception, Kay went 1 yard on a keeper to put it away with 2:05 left.

Ohio 38, Austin Peay 0

Tyler Tettleton threw three first-half touchdowns to lead Ohio to a home rout of Austin Peay (0-4).

Ohio (3-1) scored on three of its first four drives, beginning with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Tettleton to Matt Waters. Tettleton went 13-of-15 for 213 yards passing.

Ball State 51, 
Eastern Michigan 20

Jahwan Edwards scored three rushing touchdowns to lead a powerful Ball State offense in a road victory over Eastern Michigan.

Ball State (3-1, 1-0) quarterback Keith Wenning threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns to lead the MAC’s top-ranked offense.

Bronson Hill rushed for a game-high 126 yards to lead the Eagles (1-3, 0-1).

Vanderbilt 24, Massachusetts 7

Austyn Carta-Samuels threw for two touchdowns and Vanderbilt (2-2) used two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull away in a road victory over Massachusetts (0-4).

A.J. Doyle finished 20-of-28 for 133 passing yards and a touchdown for the Minutemen, who trailed 10-7 at halftime.

Bowling Green 42,
Murray State 7

Matt Johnson threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as Bowling Green (3-1) routed Murray State (2-2) at home.

Travis Greene ran for 133 yards on 17 carries, leading a Bowling Green rushing attack that featured four different players with touchdown runs.

Northern Illinois 43, 
Eastern Illinois 39

Jordan Lynch ran for 189 yards and threw for 235 to lead the Huskies (3-0) over Eastern Illinois (3-1) at home.

Cameron Stingily added 134 yards and two touchdowns for NIU.
