Sina King had a big week for the University of Akron’s women’s basketball team and was rewarded as the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the week.

A sophomore forward, King scored a career-high 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting with seven rebounds in a 71-60 loss to defending WNIT champion Toledo and scored 19 points and had 11 rebounds in Saturday’s 97-86 win over Central Michigan at Rhodes Arena, her fourth double-double of the season and third in four games.

King is the third Zip to win the honor.

The Zips play at 5 p.m. Saturday, when they host Western Michigan at Rhodes Arena and will raise funds for breast cancer awareness at the game.

Soccer signings

University of Akron coach Chris Pfau announced the signing of student-athletes for the women’s soccer team:

Katie George, a defender from Walsh Jesuit High School, was a four-year starter and first-team All-Ohio and Division II Player of the Year her senior year.

Walsh teammate Caitlin Jakubek will also play at UA. In 39 games, she allowed just six goals and posted 29 shutouts.

Madison Kaser, a midfielder from Archbishop Hoban, was a four-year letter winner, scored 21 goals and added 16 assists and helped the Knights win the Division II district championship in 2011 and reach the Division II state final in 2008.

Kaylie West was a four-year letter winner at Copley. A defender, West was second-team All-Ohio her senior year.

The rest of the recruits are goalkeepers Klaire Adee from Rockford, Ill., and Alegra Kastens from Orange, Calif.; defender-
midfielder Holly Ohradzansky from Avon High; forward-
midfielder Sydney Perez from Warren Howland; defender Amelia Robinson from Dublin Jerome; midfielder Hannah Werth from Bloomington, Minn.; and midfielder-forward Megan Waskowski from Strongsville.
