Missy Ramsey, Rebecca Lee, Alexis Madeira, Melanie Kahn and Hannah Faulkner each scored two goals, as Kent State’s field hockey team beat St. Louis 13-0 Friday in the Golden Flashes’ home opener.
Madison Thompson, Julia Hofmann and Shannon Martin scored a goal apiece and Hofmann had four assists for the Flashes (3-2).
The Flashes led 5-0 at halftime and scored eight goals in the second half to rout the Billikens (0-5).
Faulkner had two assists and Abbie Carrico, Alyssa McFerren, Shannon Martin and Missy Ramsey each had an assist for the Flashes.
Goalkeeper Jahna Jordan had four saves in her third career shutout. The Flashes outshot the Billikens 49-9, 34 of the shots coming on goal.
Kent State rallied to force a fifth set and defeated Eastern Kentucky 3-2 Friday at the Thunder Invitational in Huntington, W.Va.
The Golden Flashes (2-5) dropped the first two sets but battled back to win the third and fourth sets to force the deciding fifth set. The Flashes defeated the Colonels 15-8 in the fifth set, led by Kelly Hutchinson’s five kills.
Hutchinson finished with 13 kills and Hannah Herc had 31 digs to lead the Flashes.
The Flashes play host Marshall and Southern Illinois today.
• Alex Cocklin had 10 kills and Ashley Holder had 30 assists and 11 digs for the University of Akron in a 3-0 loss to South Dakota on Friday at the Bobcat Classic in Bozeman, Mont. The Zips will play a doubleheader today.
The Zips play host Montana State at noon and Gonzaga at 7 p.m.
