Kent State University won its third consecutive game with a 4-1 home victory over Penn State on Tuesday.
Golden Flashes pitching held Penn State to four hits and did not allow an earned run.
Starter Andy Ravel worked 5⅓ scoreless innings, striking out five and walking one. He improves to 3-1 with the win.
Eric Dorsch shut the door in the ninth for his ninth save. He walked one and struck out one.
First basemen Cody Koch led the Flashes at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three singles, an RBI and a run.
• The University of Akron stopped its three-game losing streak with a 5-0 home victory over Youngstown State on Tuesday.
UA starter Joe Cochran struck out 10 and allowed just three base runners in seven innings of work on two walks and a single. He improved to 1-0.
James Meeker led the Zips at the plate with a single, double and two RBI. Kris Simonton singled twice and scored twice.
Dom Iero also had two singles.
Tuesday’s doubleheader between Kent State and Cleveland State was canceled due to unplayable conditions at CSU.
Kent State returns to action Friday at Northern Illinois.
The University of Akron completed its nonconference schedules for 2015 and 2016.
The Zips open their 2015 season Sept. 5 at Oklahoma before hosting Pittsburgh and Savannah State on Sept. 12 and 19. They travel to Louisiana on Sept. 26.
In 2016, the Zips open their season by hosting VMI on Sept. 1. They travel to Wisconsin and Marshall on Sept. 10 and 17 before returning home on Sept. 24 to face Appalachian State.
The Tri-County Bowling Hall of Fame will hold its 46th annual induction ceremony on May 9 at Guy’s Party Centre.
The 2014 inductees are Fran Gathergood and Horace Gray, for their bowling ability, and Carl Frame for his service.
There will be a cash bar open at 6 p.m. and a dinner at 7 p.m.
