Liz Reikow and Bridget Wilhelm each had eight kills, and Aleksandra Nowak had 27 assists for the Kent State volleyball team in a straight sets loss to Ohio on Thursday night in Athens.
The Golden Flashes (12-15, 6-9) lost the first set 13-25 and fell short in the second set 15-25 before losing the third set 17-25 to the Bobcats (23-4, 13-2).
The Golden Flashes previously defeated the Bobcats in October, but could not pull off the win in the teams’ second meeting, which would have solidified a MAC Tournament spot for the Flashes.
The Flashes had a one-match lead over Central Michigan for a seventh seed in the MAC Tournament, and a two-match lead over Buffalo and Eastern Michigan for an eighth seed before Thursday’s match against Ohio.
The Flashes are still in position for a postseason spot with a match against Eastern Michigan on Saturday.
Nowak led the Flashes with eight digs, and Hannah Herc had seven digs in the match.
The Flashes return home on Saturday for the season finale against Eastern Michigan. Nowak and Herc will be honored in a senior night ceremony in their final match at the M.A.C. Center.
