On the record: Mount Union places two on Little All-America Team

Mount Union junior quarterback and Gagliardi Trophy winner Kevin Burke and senior defensive lineman Matt Fechko were named to the Associated Press Little All-America Team.

The team honors the top football players in Divisions II and III as well as the NAIA.

Fechko has never missed a game in four years and made 40 tackles with 5.5 sacks and a forced fumble for the Purple Raiders this season.

Burke led the nation in passing with 44 touchdown passes and 3,514 yards. He also rushed for 1,035 yards.

Football

Senior offensive tackle Jason Cook (Streetsboro) and senior punter Matt Harmon (Canfield) of Baldwin Wallace University were named to the 2013 D3football All-North Region first team.

Cook is a four-year starter on the line and earned All-OAC first-team honors.

Harmon led the OAC in punting with a 41.6-yard average and was also named to the All-OAC first team.

Wrestling

No. 9 Ohio State won its eighth of the past 10 matches with a 27-6 victory over Kent State.

Ian Miller (157) and Tyler Buckwalter (165) each won their matches for the Golden Flashes.

The Buckeyes were helped by Johnni DiJulius (Walsh Jesuit) and Nick Tavanello (Wadsworth).

Soccer

• University of Akron men’s coach Jared Embick was named All-Ohio Coach of the Year by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association.

Embick, a first-year head coach, led the Zips to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh consecutive season after finishing the regular season ranked No. 7 in the nation at 17-4-1.

• University of Dayton senior Juliana Libertin (Archbishop Hoban) was named a second-team NSCAA Scholar All-American, recognizing her accomplishments both on the field and the classroom.

Libertin was named 2013 Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year with seven goals and 16 assists.

Basketball

Lourdes University senior Elvin Butler (East) led the Gray Wolves men’s basketball team to an 8-2 record to begin the year, averaging 15.3 points per game.

Butler set a school record with 31 points against Madonna University on Nov. 26.
