The University of Akron women’s golf team finished in a tie for sixth place at the Rocket Classic on Tuesday at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton. The Zips finished the tournament with a three-round score of 85-over-par 949 and tied with Detroit.
Frida Fougberg tied for 14th place with a three-round score of 17-over-par 233 and Lina Bengtsson finished in 18th place with a 18-over-par 234.
Sara Chaves and Laura Murray tied for 35th place and Sierra Everson finished in 77th place. Mallory Etcheberry and Lesli Stolly, playing as individuals, tied for 67th place.
The University of Akron men’s and women’s basketball teams will make a guaranteed 10 appearances on television during conference play, the Mid-American Conference announced Tuesday.
The men’s team will appear seven times on Time Warner Cable Sports, with additional opportunities on TWC Sports and ESPN, and the women will make three appearances on TWC Sports.
The women’s team’s first televised game will be on Jan. 9 against Central Michigan on TWC Sports at 7 p.m. The men’s team will visit Ohio on Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. for their first television appearance.
The men’s team will play Eastern Michigan twice, Buffalo twice, Bowling Green and a rematch with Ohio on Feb. 22. The women’s team will play Ball State and Buffalo in addition to Central Michigan.
The Kent State men’s team will host Ohio on Jan. 8 in its first televised game. The Golden Flashes will also play Toledo, Northern Illinois, Central Michigan and Buffalo on TWC Sports.
The KSU and UA men’s teams’ home and away games are able to be selected by TWC or ESPN to be aired as wild-card games.
The KSU women’s team will visit Eastern Michigan on Feb. 6 for its lone scheduled TV appearance.
