UA golfers in first place after one round at Pinetree

The University of Akron is in first place after one round at the 2013 Pinetree Intercollegiate after sophomore Ryan Harris posted one of the lowest rounds in school history.

Harris shot an 8-under 136 at the par-72, 7,108-yard Pinetree Country Club, giving him a 6-stroke lead on the rest of the field.

As a team, the Zips hold a 4-shot lead with an even-par 576.

Charlie Bull is in fifth place individually after shooting an even-par 144.

Carr Vernon (147), J.B. Williams (149) and Chandler Morgan (157) were the other Zips golfers.

Softball

The Summit County Softball Hall of Fame will host its induction ceremony Nov. 3 at Guy’s Party Center in Akron.

Doors open at 1 p.m. For reservations, contact Larry Shaw at 330-848-9841. Deadline is Sunday.

The cost is $33.50 for adults and $12 for children under 12.
