The University of Akron women’s basketball team extended a few things Wednesday night in a 79-71 Mid-American Conference win over host Buffalo.
The Zips extended their school-record winning streak to 13 games and closed out their MAC road schedule with their seventh consecutive win. And they posted their second consecutive 20-win season, behind Rachel Tecca’s 23 points and 15 rebounds.
UA padded its six-point halftime lead to 12 less than three minutes into the second half. But the host Bulls (16-12, 9-8) came back. Buffalo tied the score 56-56 with 9:17 to go. Buffalo hung with the Zips (20-8, 14-3) for the next six minutes before Tecca scored seven of UA’s next 14 points in a 14-6 run.
Hanna Luburgh added 20 points for the Zips.
