Women’s basketball/Bowling Green 81, Akron 65: Zips senior forward sets rebound record in loss

Three Zips starters scored in double figures, but Akron only got 15 points from its bench in a 16-point Mid-American Conference women’s basketball game loss Sunday at Bowling Green.

Rachel Tecca (Archbishop Hoban) scored a game-high 22 points for Akron. The senior forward was a rebound away from a double-double. With 6:46 to go in the first half, Tecca grabbed her third rebound of the game. It was her 923rd career rebound and she became the Zips’ all-time leading rebounder, surpassing Pam Arnold (1984-88).

Hanna Luburgh scored 14 points and Kacie Cassell added 11 points and five assists as Akron dropped to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in the MAC.

Bowling Green (13-2, 3-0) matched Akron’s field goal percentage of 40 percent, but 10 of its field goals were 3-pointers. The Falcons had five players score in double figures, led by Jillian Halfhill’s 18 points. Bowling Green was 10-for-18 from behind the 3-point arc. The Zips were 3-of-14 from 3-point land.
