Three Akron starters scored in double digits, led by Hanna Luburgh’s 25 points, as the Zips beat Youngstown State on Sunday. It was Akron’s 11th consecutive home win as the Zips improved to 6-5.
Kacie Cassell scored a career-high 20 points for the Zips. Rachel Tecca added 11 points and had a team-high six rebounds.
Off the bench, the Zips had scoring help from DiAndra Gibson with nine points and Anita Brown with eight. Heidi Schlegel led Youngstown State (4-8) with 27 points that included a 13-of-14 effort from the free-throw line.
Akron recorded a season-low eight turnovers and forced the Penguins into 18, which led to 21 points for the Zips.
Akron opens Mid-American Conference play at 2 p.m. Saturday at home against Ball State.
