Join us May 31 at Youngstown State University for an important summit to discuss the future of rail passenger and freight development in the 150-mile Cleveland-Akron-Youngstown-Pittsburgh (CYP) Corridor, which is home to over 6 million people!
Also, 14,000 people a day commute at least 40 miles to work or school each way as regional transit agencies extend their reach to tap this market. There are more than 150,000 students enrolled in higher education, many in older communities with a rail line and reviving downtowns. There are new steel plants and advanced manufacturing activities arriving. There are increasing demands for intra-regional rail freight but short-line freight railroads lack the capital to expand.
Northeast Ohio and Southwestern Pennsylvania are joined together by a unique blend of culture and commerce and generally have little in common with the rest of their respective states. But a legal boundary divides the CYP Corridor.
When a potential rail project must be coordinated across state lines or in states that lack rail development tools, this causes complications for communities that want to bolster their regional competitiveness and attractiveness by investing in passenger and freight rail. There also is no transportation and economic development entity with jurisdiction to administer rail development, economic development along rail corridors and to capture the increased value of real estate and business activity created by investments in rail. That’s why All Aboard Ohio is organizing the:
