70 Valentines Later - Still In Love!

UPublish story by David Saltman

William and Juliet Saltman, longtime Akron residents, were married on Valentine's Day, 1943.

William, now 95, was then a young GI who had managed to wangle a three-day pass to marry the love of his life, Juliet, now 90. Now, 70 years later, William says fondly, "She still makes me laugh. She's a wonderful woman."

"He's the sweetest guy in the world," says she.

They loved everything about Akron for the 35 years they lived there, except the weather. So after William retired from his job as a research chemist at Goodyear, and Juliet retired from hers as a professor at Kent State, they moved to San Diego, where the accompanying pictures were taken.

They're still young in spirit and strong in body -- still driving, even, after all these years. They need to, because they still love to go out to dinner and the theater, like they've done for the past seventy years.
