Martin Drexler’s love of comedy began when he was younger and his family would gather around to watch Richard Pryor and Whoopi Goldberg. As the resident class clown growing up, Martin made it a goal of his to one day perform stand-up comedy. Martin pursued his goal of doing stand-up comedy by performing at area comedy clubs and publishing a book entitled Almost Joke Book. He was also awarded Ohio's Best Amateur Comedian through a competition at the Funny Stop in Cuyahoga Falls, OH.
His journey to becoming a finalist on the The View for America’s Funniest Teacher began a few weeks ago when Martin began receiving texts and e-mails from his aunt and cousin encouraging him to submit his material. Martin discovered that ABC’s The View was calling for teachers, nationwide, to submit videos of themselves being funny. Having gotten into the stand-up comedy arena just over three years ago, Martin decided to submit his information.
Late last week, Martin got the call inviting him to perform on ABC’s The View. He is a finalist in America’s Funniest Teacher and will do a 90 second set live on ABC’s The View this Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 11:00am.
Martin came to Akron Digital Academy this year as a Math teacher. In his short tenure at Akron Digital Academy he has worked closely with our student population to help foster a love for Math.
Although Martin views this as a chance of a lifetime he won’t be ditching his day job anytime soon. “I began teaching Math close to 15 years ago and my love for educating kids is bigger than my love of stand-up.” Akron Digital Academy is proud of their amazing teacher who happens to be a pretty funny guy.
Check out The View on February 27, 2013 and see how funny Akron Digital Academy's Martin Drexler can be.
