Appian Way to Appalachian Trails
For over two decades, Allegro Dance Company has been wowing crowds of all ages with their tour performances throughout the United States and Italy. They will be returning to Akron Ohio for the 67th Italian American Festival on July 14th at 2:30pm for a tarantella workshop and 3pm performance. Allegro is known for their unique and powerful performances fusing traditional Italian dance with other dance styles to educate audiences about the rich culture of Italy.
Allegro, meaning fast tempo in Italian, is based out of Wheeling WV and is directed by award-winning choreographer Anna Harsh. This professional company is comprised of young talented men and women from the Ohio Valley. They have been seen at festivals, universities and other cultural celebrations and have been featured in numerous magazines such as: Dance Magazine, Dance Spirit, Wheeling Life, State of the Art Magazine and WV Living magazine.
Allegro will be showcasing some brand new work from this years tour Appian Way to Appalachian trails. The show opens with Christopher Columbus' journey and ends with Choices, a theatrical modern dance piece reflecting on the journey and sacrifices Italians made to come to America. The company has also added to their extensive repertoire a traditional Sicilian tarantella filled with tambourine playing and fancy foot work. Come enjoy the colorful costumes and sample the dances of Italy from the top to the bottom of the boot.
