Celtic Beltane Festival

UPublish story by Margaret Frost

The 10th Annual Celtic Beltane Festival, sponsored by the Scottish American Society ( http://www.scottishamericansociety.org/ ) will be held on Sunday, May 18th, 2014, at the Tudor House, New Franklin Civic Center, 655 Latham Lane, Akron, Ohio 44319. Paved parking is at the adjacent Portage Lakes State Park, beach area. Entrance to the festival is from the paved parking area.

This proved to be an excellent venue for our event. Parking is simple, the entrance is right there off the parking lot, and the festival is easily managed by everyone. Gates open at 11:00. Free parking. Admission cost: Age 100 and over, free. Age 8 and under, free. Over age 8 - $7.00. $20 for a family. All entertainment included.

Our entertainment this year will feature two outstanding pipe bands: The Cyril Scott Pipe Band from Columbus and The Celtic Eagle Pipe Band, both prize winners in their divisions. The Akron Ceili Band and others will present traditional Celtic tunes. Highland Athletes will demonstrate their prowess and the younger folks will have their own games.

There will be entertainment from the Scottish, Welsh, and Irish communities. Santa Claus will be there with other members of Clan Claus to check on the progress of the naughty and nice lists. Baskets containing many wondrous items will be raffled off to raise funds for the benefit of Pegasus Farms, a 501 (C ) (3) organization dedicated to horseback riding therapy for those who are disabled or handicapped.

There will be a display of vintage cars, food, and a beer garden will be on site.

A list of nearby campgrounds will be furnished upon request.

The Festival is easily reached via Portage Lakes State Park, which is off I-93, just north of Canal Fulton in New Franklin, Ohio.

*The Celtic Beltane Festival is a 501(c)(3) charity.
