For the second year, Akron will join with other major cities of the world in hosting a Cupcake Camp. This is an event where people who like to bake cupcakes gather with people who like to eat them for free. The movement began in San Francisco a number of years ago and has now spread world wide. Bakers, both professional as well as amateurs, bring cupcakes to share. They have the option to enter their beautiful confections in a baking contest and possibly go home as a first place winner. The only way to make the event possible is by the support of sponsors who provide funding and /or products in exchange for advertising both on the web site as well as at the event. Last year there were about 3,000 cupcakes brought to the event and hundreds of "eaters" who had their fill. Proceeds from free will donations benefited BSA Troop 334 who sponsored the Cupcake Camp. "We don't ask people to plunge into an icy lake, or run 5 K, we just ask them to eat free cupcakes!" stated boy scout, Joe Cantwell, This year Cupcake Camp is being held in the Parish Life Center at Queen of Heaven church on May 10 from 12-2pm.
