(Medina, Ohio) DID YOU KNOW? 85.4% of women and 63% of children entering domestic violence shelters reported incidents of pet abuse (

Every year more and more families and their furry best friends are participating in events across the county to raise awareness about the serious effects of domestic violence in their communities. You are invited to join in this effort on Saturday, October 5th! Residents from Medina and surrounding communities will strut their mutt in a one-mile fun walk with their pooch.

Participants will be led by their 4-legged pals through downtown Medina during the Sixth Annual “Walk With Your Best Friend Against Abuse” event. Men, women, and children are invited to come out with their best friends and join us in bringing awareness to the link between pet abuse and domestic violence.

This year we are thrilled that our long-time partner, the United Way of Medina County, will kick off the event with a brief presentation on the link between domestic abuse and pet abuse. We will also welcome back Ravenna Miceli, radio personality, as our dog costume contest emcee! The event will include a one-mile walk (with your furry best friend) led by a SPCA shelter dog, dog costume contest, doggy demo, music, information tables, refreshments and more!

Registration is scheduled to begin at 9:30AM at the Medina Uptown Park Square & Gazebo in combination with the Medina County Farmer’s Market. Participants may choose to walk as an individual or as a team. We encourage participants to form teams to optimize raising money and awareness to support the Battered Women’s Shelter of Medina County. There is a $15.00 registration fee for individuals, which may be paid online or the day of the event. Both teams and individuals may register online by visiting This link is a quick and easy way to help spread the word about the event and raise money for your team directly online!

Walk activities will include a dog trick demonstration by Sit Means Sit, Survivor Speaker, Live music by Christian Mcfee, photography by Leslie Davis Photography, and a Dog Costume Contest. This fun-filled family event will include activities for children, information tables, raffles, refreshments, and more!

Prizes will be awarded to the top dogs in numerous categories as well as the top 3 teams who raise the most amount of money! And a special thank you to our Mastiff sponsor, Summa Foundation.

The Battered Women’s Shelter of Medina County is sponsoring this event. The mission of the Battered Women’s Shelter is to lead the community in the prevention of domestic abuse by providing emergency shelter, advocacy and education, all in an effort to break the cycle of abuse and help promote peace in every family.
