FACT VISIONS TO VENTURES GRANTS AWARDS FIRST GLANCE STUDENT CENTER FUNDING FOR FOOTBALL DINNER PROGRAM

UPublish story by Kendra Murray

Akron, Ohio, Friday March 18, 2014 – First Glance Student Center is privileged to announce that it has received a $2,500 grant from the Federation of American Consumers and Travelers (FACT) “Visions to Venture” Program in support of the organization’s Football Dinner Program.

The goal of the program is to build team unity and inspire and motivate students about their futures in academics, in life, and in spirituality. The Football Dinner Program began with the vision of two community members and First Glance volunteers to encourage an often-overlooked group in the community—the high school football players and coaches. Each week, this couple, along with other community volunteers, gathers to cook for and serve the football team. Since the inception of the program only three years ago, the team has almost doubled, increasing in size from 60 to 100 players.

Rachel Jones, one of the program’s founding community members, spoke about the award, "Three years ago, we had the privilege of hosting team dinners for the Kenmore high school football team. Our players find the team dinner to be an opportunity to build unity, develop community, and enjoy being part of the team. This grant will allow us to add additional meals to continue this tradition. On behalf of First Glance and the football team, we are grateful for this financial assistance.”

FACT’s “Visions to Ventures” Program seeks to provide financial support to community and small business projects. The program specifically supports organizations and businesses that provide essential services to their communities.

First Glance Student Center, Inc. is a youth center in the Kenmore Community of Akron that hosts eleven programs, each designed to meet a need among the children, youth, or young adults of the community with the ultimate goal of connecting these students and their communities to Christ and the church through real, loving, and non-threatening avenues.
