Family Promise's New Building

UPublish story by Eric Smith

The new building for Family Promise is in full swing. The new building is located on 111 East Voris Street in Akron. They expect everything to be moved into the new location by the end of April. If you have been to the old location you will see a big difference with the new building. The new building is much bigger then the old location, which was a two story house, and is even equipped with a warehouse that will help with holding supplies. They built more office space for the employees, with a fully functional conference room. The social worker got a new office that will help with privacy when she meets one-on-one with the families. The new building is able to hold more families. They are expecting to hold four families at a time, but some extra space they have could bring this number up to eight families. By the families living area is a backyard that will serve as a playground for the children. With more families the new building will be making washer and dryers more available as well as bathrooms. The kitchen area will have a stove, refrigerator, sink, microwave and also will have couches for a lounging area for the families. Family Promise also teamed up with Petsmart to help family pets stay with the families as well. They have donated cat houses and kennels that will house the pets. The pets will go outside in the playground area with the children. This area will be back by the warehouse. The new building is going to help expand Family Promise and bring more awareness to the organization, but most importantly it will help more families stay together.
