Akron, Ohio, Friday December 1, 2012 – In two communities where over 80% of middle and high school students are considered “at-risk,” First Glance Student Center has stepped in to meet the needs of these students. First Glance, whose mission is to connect students to Christ and the Church through real, loving, and non-threatening avenues, ministers to students in the Kenmore and Eastside communities of Akron through providing meals, mentors, and a safe environment.
In 2012, several local foundations believed enough in the mission and actions of First Glance to help fund various aspects of the organization.
The Foundations and awards are as follows:
Northern Ohio Golf Charities Foundation, $23,000 – For the purchase of a 15-passenger van that allowed First Glance to provide safe and reliable transportation to students,
In His Steps (HIS) Foundation, $2,000 – For general operating expenses which allow First Glance to continue to function,
Bath Volunteers for Service, $680 – For materials needed to teach our Teen Moms how to sew,
The Matthews Family Foundation, $5,000 – For First Glance’s Explosion Phase II Capital Campaign
The GAR, $25,000 – For general operating expenses which allow First Glance to continue to function,
The Key Back Foundation, $500 – For the needs of the Young Adults program,
Glenn R. and Alice V. Boggess Memorial Foundation, $500 – For the needs of our Ladies’ Night Out girls mentoring program,
Tuscora Park Health & Wellness Foundation, $2,500 – For food and educational materials needed for our Young Moms program,
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Community Advancement Fund, $1,000 – For the needs of First Glance’s Eastside Recreational night and its students,
Laura R. & Lucian Q. Moffitt Foundation, $500 - For the needs of our Ladies’ Night Out girls mentoring program,
The Akron Community Foundation, $10,000 – For covering all aspects of our Teen Moms program, including food, educational materials, job training materials, etc.,
W. Paul Mills & Thora J. Mills Memorial Foundation, $500 - For the needs of our Skate Night program.
First Glance is grateful for such generosity, as we know that the organization could not continue to operate without the support of local foundations such as these.
