First Presbyterian Church to Host Alumni Trumpet and Organ Recital on March 8

WOOSTER, Ohio — Zachary Lyman, a 1997 graduate of The College of Wooster, and his brother, Thatcher, will present a recital of works for trumpet and organ at First Presbyterian Church in Wooster (621 College Avenue) on Friday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. The recital, which is free and open to the public, will include music by Johann Neruda, Vincent Persichetti, Felix Mendelssohn, David Sampson, and Anton Heiller.

Trumpeter Zachary Lyman is associate professor of trumpet and music theory at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash. He earned the M.M. degree in trumpet performance with honors and distinction from the New England Conservatory of Music and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance and pedagogy from the University of Iowa, where he held the Iowa Performance Fellowship. He has performed with the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, as Principal Trumpet of the New England Philharmonic and the New England Conservatory Honors Orchestra, and as featured soloist with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra.

Organist Thatcher Lyman holds degrees in organ performance and mathematics from Oberlin College and Conservatory. He earned a Master of Arts degree in Ensemble Singing with distinction from the University of York (UK) and the M.M. degree from the Eastman School of Music. He is a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance at the Eastman School of Music, where he was the recipient of Eastman's Gerald Barnes Award for Excellence in Pipe Organ.
