High-performing charter school organization to open campus in Canton

UPublish story by Lauren Sterle

Imagine a public school sending 100% of its students to a four-year college or university. Now, imagine those same students graduating and returning to work and serve in the community that raised them. What sort of impact would such a system have on the economy and culture of that city? With the opening of a new charter school this fall, Canton, Ohio is about to find out.

On August 19th, Canton College Preparatory School will open its doors to scholars in grades K-5. As the newest addition to the I CAN SCHOOLS network, Canton College Preparatory provides a dynamic and highly effective educational option for all students in the Canton area. Located inside St. Benedict Church, the southeast Canton charter school will prepare students to thrive in and contribute to Canton’s changing economy.

Founded in 2010, I CAN SCHOOLS adds Canton College Preparatory School as the seventh campus in its network. The non-profit charter school management organization chose to open a campus in Canton after spending years observing the resilient, vibrant, and cohesive nature of the community. Sonia Rice, the Office Manager at Canton College Preparatory, believes that families in the community “deserve another option” in education. Rice explains that opening the school will serve to empower families with a choice for their children’s academic future.

The success of Canton College Preparatory is assured by a well-researched curriculum and highly experienced staff. A ten-month school year, extended school day, and mandatory school uniforms provide scholars with a private-school experience at no cost to families. Canton College Preparatory School also provides free transportation, tutoring, Saturday school, breakfast, and lunch to its scholars. Canton College Preparatory will boast a robust arts and physical education program enhanced by free after-school activities like basketball, hip-hop dance, student government, chess team, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts.

Locations in Cleveland, Akron, Maple Heights, and Canton will continue accepting enrollment until August 19th. To learn more about I CAN SCHOOLS and how to enroll, families may contact 1-888-977-ICAN(4226) or visit Seats are limited and filling quickly, so parents must enroll quickly to become a founding family of the Canton location.
