Local foundations support first glance student center, making change possible

UPublish story by Kendra Murray

Akron, Ohio, Wednesday January 16, 2014 – For the 2012-2013 school year, the Ohio Department of Education said that 100% of the students at Kenmore High School in Akron were economically disadvantaged. First Glance Student Center, a local youth center for at-risk teens and young adults, seeks out these students, hoping to provide for their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

In 2013, twelve local foundations chose to come alongside First Glance and their mission to help the Kenmore students and their community.

The Foundations and awards are as follows:

The GAR, $25,000 – For general operating expenses which allow First Glance to continue to function,

The Akron Community Foundation, $10,000 – For covering all aspects of our Teen Moms program, including food, educational materials, etc.,

The Matthews Family Foundation, $10,000 – For First Glance’s general needs and Skate Night Program,

Ronald McDonald House Charities, $9,498 – To purchase new equipment for First Glance’s recreational areas and skate park,

WITAN, $4,200 - For covering all aspects of our Teen Moms program, including food, educational materials, etc.,

In His Steps (HIS) Foundation, $4,000 – For general operating expenses which allow First Glance to continue to function,

R.C. & Katharine M. Musson Charitable Foundation – For expenses of First Glance’s Explosion Phase II Capital Campaign,

The Welty Family Foundation, $1,200 – For expenses related to providing food for the Kenmore High School football team through First Glance’s Football Dinner Program,

Lloyd L & Louise K. Smith Foundation, $1000 - For general operating expenses which allow First Glance to continue to function,

Glenn R. and Alice V. Boggess Memorial Foundation, $500 – For general operating expenses which allow First Glance to continue to function,

Laura R. & Lucian Q. Moffitt Foundation, $500 - For general operating expenses which allow First Glance to continue to function,

W. Paul Mills & Thora J. Mills Memorial Foundation, $250 - For general operating expenses which allow First Glance to continue to function.

First Glance has been very blessed by these generous donors and knows that without their help, change in the Kenmore community could not happen.
