The Akron, Ohio law firm of Slater & Zurz LLP has been awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the Young Black Professionals Coalition (YBPC) for its contributions to a Back To School Drive held on Saturday, August 24th. The event benefited inner-city youth by preparing them for the upcoming school year.
More than 800 students received book bags and school supplies from the back to school drive. Students were also given free haircuts, hairstyling and nail designs during Saturday’s event.
"The Back To School Drive is one of our favorite events of the year”, said Steve King, co-founder of the YBPC. “It is amazing how something that may seem like a small gesture, such as a book bag and supplies, can change a child's entire outlook on life. These kids are the future, so it’s our job as leaders and role models to make sure they are well prepared to do so."
“It’s an honor to receive this Certificate of Appreciation”, said Andrew Pullekins, an attorney at the law firm of Slater & Zurz LLP. “The best award of all was seeing the smiles on the faces of the boys and girls who will be starting a new school year knowing their community supports and cares for them”, he added.
