PLAIN LOCAL TEEN PART OF OHIO IDOL TOP 50

COLUMBUS – A Plain Local, teen will perform at Ohio’s largest Independence Day celebration after qualifying for the third round of a statewide vocal competition.

Kaylah Armstead, 15, recently was selected as a member of Ohio Idol’s Top 50, and will sing outside Nationwide Arena, in Columbus, on July 3 at Red White and Boom.

Ohio Idol is a statewide singing competition, exclusively for Ohio residents that are 12 years of age and older. Contestants compete to win a $10,000 cash prize, a recording contract and a year-long, state tour with the Top 5.

“There is so much talent here in Ohio that we never get to see on TV,” said Steve Wise, President of InTune Promotions and show creator. “We want to give the talented residents of Ohio a place to showcase their talent, get performance experience and professional guidance. Our industry judges, along with the cash prize and recording contract, are keys to helping talented singers get on their way to a professional career.”

The Idol competition consists of four rounds of auditions.

The first round was held at Westerville Central High School on June 9, where participants competed against nearly 700 other hopefuls from around the state.

The Top 100 singers were invited to audition in the second round at Westerville Central High School in on June 16 and 17, where the competition was narrowed down to 50.

The Top 50 will perform from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. just outside Nationwide Arena, 343 Front St. on July 3, where the competition will be narrowed down to 10.

The Top 10 will perform at four county fairs before performing live on the Main Street stage at The Ohio State Fair on July 28, where the winner and Top 5 will be announced.

Side Bar: Registration for Ohio Idol 2013 is underway. Those who wish to compete must fulfill the following criteria:

• Must be 12 years of age or older by June 9th 2012

• Must be a resident of Ohio. Proof of residency required.

• Must not be under contract with an agent or record company
