Eastern Gateway Community College and ShaleNET will offer a three-week floor hand training class from Aug. 19-Sept. 6. The class will be held at the Pugliese Center, 110 John Scott Highway, Steubenville from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. daily.
Full scholarships are available for all veterans and unemployed Ohioans who qualify.
Students will learn basic skills needed for an entry-level position in the oil and gas industry. Floor hands operate well drilling and service rigs, and also assist with general maintenance and connection and disconnection of pipes. The jobs are labor-intensive; most are 12-hour shifts for 14 days at a time.
Potential students must have a physical exam, drug screening and criminal background check at their own expense, which could cost about $150. Completion of the pre-screening does not guarantee placement in the class. A valid driver’s license also is required and, if applicable, a copy of a DD214 discharge paper.
Applicants should go to www.ShaleNET.org and register with Talent Match to learn more details. In addition, packets with the forms can be picked up at the Pugliese Center. Registration required by August 12.
