WOOSTER, Ohio — Mark Fullerton, professor of art history at The Ohio State University, will present “The Change to Classical in Greek Art: Revolution or Evolution?” on Thursday, Feb. 21, at The College of Wooster. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. in Lean Lecture Room of Wishart Hall (303 E. University St.). An open reception with beverages and snacks will be held in the foyer outside the lecture room following the presentation.
Fullerton will address the central issues concerning the most important periods in the history of Greek sculpture, a period that saw the birth of Democracy, the birth of Tragedy, and the Battle of Marathon. He will address such issues as how, when, and why stylistic forms changed in ancient Greece, and whether the distinct change in the early fifth century BC Greek sculptural style reflected a sudden cultural transformation in response to the dramatic events of the time, or whether it was part of a broader development that took place over several centuries.
Fullerton’s lecture is sponsored by the Archaeology Student Colloquium, the Program in Archaeology, the Local Society of the Archaeological Institute of America, the Cultural Events Committee, and the local chapter of Lambda Alpha National Honorary Society in Anthropology.
