Volunteer Opportunities, For the Week of 1-21-13

The United Way of Summit County Volunteer Center recruits and refers volunteers to area non-profit organizations and other organizations required to incorporate volunteer programs for accreditation status. The following organizations need volunteers. Battered Women’s Shelter: Volunteers needed daily on a flexible schedule to assist with general needs at the shelter. Also seeking movers to assist with large item donations. Minimum age: 18.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve: Do you like helping people find their way? This may be the task for you! Volunteer front desk assistant needed to sign Club members in & out; direct visitors; answer phone calls; notifying staff and members when someone is here to see them. This opportunity is ongoing. Minimum age: 16.

Community Pregnancy Center (Barberton): Volunteers needed 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekdays and the last Tuesday of each month, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. & the last Saturday of each month, 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. to assist with office/clerical duties, sorting donations, etc. Minimum age: 16.

CORE Furniture Bank (Community Outreach and Resources Exchange): Volunteers needed 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Wednesdays to schedule appointments for families receiving donated furniture. This is an at-home. Minimum age: 21.

Fair Housing Contact Service: Volunteers needed 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. weekdays two-three days a week to answer multiple phone lines and assist with other office/clerical needs. Minimum age: 16.

Freedom House for Women: Volunteers needed weekdays to assist with scheduling appointments, phone answering, greeting guests/clients; computer experience preferred. Minimum age: 18, 16 with adult supervision.

Guardians Against Sex Predators (G.A.S.P.): Volunteers needed to fingerprint children, help with phone calls, court observation, search teams and speaking opportunities—day/times vary. Minimum age: 18.

Grace Hospice: Administrative Volunteer Needed in our Uniontown/Green Office. A volunteer with clerical skills can serve Grace Hospice by helping with simple administrative duties. Responsibilities can include preparing mailings or bereavement letters, filing, sorting, alphabetizing and otherwise assisting with patient charts. Minimum age: 16.

Info Line, Inc.: Volunteers needed weekdays between 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. for a minimum of 4 hours a week to provide various administrative duties. Must have basic computer skills, including web browser and MS Office. Minimum age: 18.

Lake Anna YMCA: Seeking Volunteers to welcome members and guests to our facility and help direct them to the appropriate staff member. Volunteers will also help by leading tours of our building and answering basic questions. Schedule is flexible. Minimum age: 14.

Mobile Meals, Inc.: Office support volunteers needed on a flexible basis to assist with alphabetizing, filing, completing forms, assisting with mailings and promotional items. Minimum age: 13.

Mothers Assisting Mothers: Volunteers needed two to three days a week between 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. to assist with answering phones, make calls, some donation organizing and attend informational events, etc. Minimum age: 18.

OPEN M: Volunteers are needed weekdays on an as needed basis to fill-in at the front desk/reception area. Volunteers will be trained. Minimum age: 18.

Paws & Prayers, Inc.: Volunteer Office Angels needed on a flexible schedule to do clerical work, wash and fold laundry daily, do whatever dishes are in the sink, run errands if able, help keep office cleaning by sweeping, mopping, disinfecting kennels and cat cages and empty trash. Not only will you feel good about the work you do but the animals will pay you back in kisses! Minimum age: 18, 16 with adult supervision.

Project Learn of Summit County: Volunteers needed to assist teachers in the classroom weekdays AM/PM. Volunteers also needed to assist with office/clerical activities. Minimum age: 18.

Rockynol Retirement Community: Volunteers needed throughout the week to welcome visitors entering the Health Care Center and direct them to resident's rooms. Days and hours are flexible - minimum 2-3 hours a week. Training will be provided by the Volunteer Director. Must be friendly, patient, and like interacting with others. Minimum Age: 16.


Ronald McDonald House: Volunteers needed any day of the week every other week to assist with cooking, cleaning, and some office work. Minimum age: 16, 14 with adult supervision.

Stewart’s Caring Place: Volunteers needed 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. weekdays to answer phones, welcome and direct visitors, gather information and give tours. Minimum age: 16.

United Way of Summit County: The Volunteer Center needs your help putting some of our paper files into our database. Volunteer will need to be comfortable with data entry and sitting for extended periods of time. Minimum age: 18.
