Area Agency on Aging: Volunteer Ombudsmen needed to visit residents in long term care facilities and help address their concerns. Training required. Minimum age: 18.
Autism Society of Ohio Greater Akron Office: Volunteers needed to help with our Lose the Training Wheels camp. This opportunity is for anyone with their own transportation interested in dedicating an hour and a half each day over the 5 days of camp teaching a person with a disability to ride a bike. Volunteers will get exercise from walking/jogging alongside your assigned camper! There will be a required training and orientation the Sunday before camp to learn how to best support the campers. Minimum age: 16.
Barberton Hospice & Palliative Care: Volunteers needed on a flexible basis to provide direct care by visiting patients in their homes, nursing facilities and/or hospitals. Special need for male volunteers as well as for Military Veterans to support terminally ill Veterans. Minimum age: 16.
CASA/GAL Program of Summit County: We are looking for volunteers for Saturday, August 18th to assist with the Summit for Kids Expo event at the John S. Knight Center. Volunteers would have a variety of duties and would be assigned to a certain area. We are looking for groups and individuals for either a 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. shift (lunch will be provided), or 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., or 12 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. There is a mandatory volunteer training on Friday, August 17th from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the John S. Knight Center. Minimum age: 16, 13 with adult supervision.
CORE Furniture Bank (Community Outreach and Resources Exchange): Volunteers needed 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Wednesdays to schedule appointments for families receiving donated furniture. This is an at-home. Minimum age: 21.
Girl Scouts of North East Ohio: Seeking Volunteers to work with girls in your desired age group on Girl Scout programming (Journey's). The program sessions are held locally at libraries, rec centers, etc. The sessions are 2 hours long, each week over 6-8 weeks. All materials including lesson plans are provided, training is free. Volunteers may facilitate one 6-8 week session per year or as many as they prefer. Minimum age: 18, 15 with adult supervision.
Helping Hands of Summit County: Volunteers needed to deliver furniture, appliances and vehicles to clients’ homes. Must use own transportation or have access to delivery vehicle. Minimum age: 18.
Info Line, Inc.: Volunteers needed weekdays or weekends (as available) to assist with Lifeline Marketing/PR tasks. Volunteers must have computer skills, including MS Office and be able to operate office equipment. Minimum age: 18.
International Institute of Akron: Volunteer families and individuals needed 6-8 hours a month for at least 15 weeks to help recently-arrived refugee families adapt to life in the US. Training provided. Minimum age: 21.
International Soap Box Derby, Inc.: Volunteers needed to help during the week of July 16th-July 21st. There are several opportunities throughout the week. Opportunity may include helping pass out food and water, clean-up, information, loading/unloading cars, parking, etc. Upon first contact you will be directed to a form where you can choose what assignments you are interested in. Minimum age: 16.
Keep Akron Beautiful: Volunteers teams needed during the month of July to canvass a route in the City to nominate residences, businesses and organizations to receive the Beautification Watch Award for 2012. A one hour training session at end of June is offered and highly recommended especially for new volunteers to this project; lots of tips are offered to make this a successful experience. Opportunity takes about 8 hours in your own car canvassing the one route selected.
Lake Anna YMCA: Volunteers needed for our Summer Baseball Camp which focuses on the fundamentals of baseball drills, games and activities that will help children become better baseballl players and teammates. Camp runs July 9-July 12 from 9:30am-12:00pm. Must be able to volunteer the entire week. Minimum age: 15
Laurel Lake Retirement Community (Hudson): Volunteers needed a minimum of one hour per week to provide companionship to residents. Minimum age: 14, 12 with adult supervision.
Lighthouse Academy: Volunteers needed weekdays between the hours of 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. for a minimum of 6 hours per day to assist with administrative duties, inventory data collection, help teachers with student activities, and help serve, chaperone, and clean up after students’ breakfast and lunch. Minimum age: 18.
Nazareth Housig Development Corporation: Adult Volunteers are needed to help with both the planning and construction of a playground. Construction will begin August 4th from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Miller Avenue United Church of Christ. Minimum age: 18, 14 with adult supervision.
Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare (Northfield): Volunteers needed to provide musical programs, call bingo, and provide seasonal and holiday presentations. Minimum age: 18.
Northern Ohio Golf Charities, Inc.: Volunteers needed to assist with the Bridgestone Invitational July 29th though August 6th. There are over 34 committees from which to choose. Minimum age: 18, 13 with adult supervision.
Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition: Volunteers needed to assist with our 5K Towpath Freedom Run on Saturday, July 7th, in celebration of the completion of the Towpath Trail in Summit County. This event is in honor of Independence Day, and veteran support is welcomed. Volunteer opportunities include food set up, award set up and distribution, directing the course, and water stop volunteers. There will be two groups of volunteers. Group A will arrive at 6:30 a.m. and Group B will arrive at 8:00 a.m. Minimum age: 18, 14 with adult supervision.
Paws & Prayers, Inc.: Care for animals in your home that need a little extra care and attention before they can go up for adoption. Some of our animals that come from the pound may require socialization and/or re-training in areas such as housebreaking, behavior problems and basic obedience. Paws and Prayers provide food, supplies and medical care as well as a mentor and training to help you get started. Minimum age: 18.
Rockynol Retirement Community: Volunteers are needed to help transport residents to and from Sunday Worship Service in Rockynol's Hugh and Myrna Porter Chapel. Volunteers will assist residence by pushing wheelchairs to and from services. Minimum age: 13.
