City streets, country roads, trails, sky and water.... All the elements that are sure to make the Wooster Urban Adventure Challenge on Saturday, July 28, 2012 a race to remember!

Teams of two or three people will navigate their way through the City of Wooster by foot and bike taking on a series of mental and physical challenges along the way. Teams will be provided a map and a clue sheet and the rest is up to them!

“Urban Adventure Challenge races are happening all over the country and we thought it would be great to create an event for Wooster,” according to Patrice Smith, race coordinator. “This style of race involves a combination of athletic tests, scavenger hunts and games interspersed with hiking, biking and running or walking. Plus we throw in a few surprises just to keep things interesting.”

Teams should expect to walk or run 8-10 miles, bike 14-16 miles and hike four miles. A racing bike is not needed or required; just one that will get you around. Teams should expect the race to take four to six hours. The course will close at 5 pm.

Being a Wooster local isn't necessarily an advantage, according to Smith. But being able to think on your feet and work together as a team will be.

“Race teams don't need to be from Wooster to be successful,” she said, “but I would recommend participants research our race sponsors and also learn a little bit about Wooster's recreational facilities and parks. Race teams will be allowed to use the Internet, cell phones and GPS systems to help them get to the various checkpoints around the course, if they wish.”

Race check-in and packet pick up will be from 6:00 to 7:30 am at the Noble Ice Arena. A brief pre-race meeting will follow at 7:30 am. and the race will begin at 8:00 a.m. Food and beverages will be provided to race teams at the post-race party at 5 pm at the Olde Jaol Brewing Co. The awards ceremony and charity auction will be held during the party. The post-race party and auction are open to the public.

The cost of the event is $125 for a two-person team and $150 for a three-person team. Participants will receive complete race information, a race t-shirt, the post-race party and other goodies.

All proceeds from the race will go to support People to People Ministries which has been providing adequate food, clothing, shelter, and basic health care to qualifying persons in Wayne County, Ohio, since 1977.
