Akron, Ohio…The World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, and its partner, Northern Ohio Golf Charities, have named First Glance Student Center of the Kenmore Community as a recipient of 2011 tournament funds. The Bridgestone Invitational has given $23,000 to First Glance to be used to enhance community outreach efforts in 2012 and the years to come. The money donated by the tournament was used to purchase a 15-passenger van for the student center.
Every year, the Bridgestone Invitational and Northern Ohio Golf Charities Foundation donate more than $800,000 to Northern Ohio non-profits. Throughout the years, more than $21 million in tournament proceeds has been given to worthy causes seeking to improve the quality of life in Northeast Ohio.
As the year comes to a close, the van has already been an incredible gift, fulfilling its purpose time and time again. The van has allowed First Glance to provide safe and reliable transportation to their students, while also allowing the organization to take the students on more outings and field trips. These trips and outings allow for students to broaden their view of the world, as many of them have never even been outside of their community or Akron. The van has and will continue to save First Glance money, as in the past the organization had to rent vans for travel.
First Glance, whose mission is to connect students to Christ and the Church through real, loving, and non-threatening avenues, ministers to students in the Kenmore and Eastside communities of Akron through providing meals, mentors, and a safe environment.
