AKRON--On January 23, ZACH returns to the historic Akron Civic Theatre in a duet performance with violinist Samuel Salsbury, for an evening titled, “Ignite the Soul: Music to Uplift and Inspire.”
Already known around Akron and the rest of the country for his energetic and uplifting live performances, Zach will be upping the spiritual element of his kinetic and soulful songs by pairing up with Samuel’s kirtan (meditation as song) violin accents.
Samuel’s musical background spans all genres from classical to rock, but his improvisational skill and sacred intention has brought him national attention in the kirtan scene. He’s performed with leading kirtan artists such as Jai Uttal, Dave Stringer, Donna De Lory, Prema Hara, David Newman, and master tabla player, Badal Roy.
“Ignite the Soul” is the next installment in Zach’s “Love Initiative” movement. He previously performed two other cabaret-style shows at the Civic, bringing his Love Initiative to life with a full band, guest performers, and multimedia interaction.
The Love Initiative launched in early 2010 to foster the idea of “Love with a capital L,” and to “inspire kindness in the Akron community through music,” Zach says.
No stranger to “Love with a capital L”, Zach also actively supports a number of environmental and social causes in the community, this year being named as Humanitarian of the Year by Akron Life Magazine.
He also created the Love Initiative Fund this year through proceeds from the sale of “Provenance,” a record released in fall 2013 of songs Zach co-wrote with artists around the nation. The fund will financially support educational and inspirational programs on nonviolence in the Akron area. A portion of the proceeds from “Ignite the Soul” will also benefit the Love Initiative Fund.
“The world of one person can change in an instant. It just takes a minute. This is that minute,” Zach says of the Love Initiative.
“Ignite the Soul” takes place on Thursday, January 23, 7:30pm at the Akron Civic Theatre. ZACH and Samuel Salsbury feature, along with special guest performers. Tickets are $20, or “date-night special” two for $30. Tickets available online at www.akroncivic.com.
