WOOSTER, Ohio — Akron Attorney Edward L. Gilbert will present “Florida v. Zimmerman” at The College of Wooster’s first Africana Studies Seminar of the fall semester on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m. in Gault Recital Hall of Scheide Music Center (525 E. University St.). The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will feature a summary by Gilbert of the civil rights violations in this case, as he would in an actual court trial before a judge and jury.
A 1973 Wooster graduate and a 1976 graduate of the University of Akron School of Law, Gilbert has been a successful civil rights litigator in northeast Ohio for more than 30 years as the owner of the law firm Edward L. Gilbert Co., LPA. Prior to that, he was a partner in the law firm of Slater, Zurz & Gilbert, which concentrated on civil rights and employment law. In 2012, Gilbert was appointed by the Ohio General Assembly as a distinguished member of the Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission, which promotes an exchange of experiences and suggestions regarding desired changes in the Constitution. He also serves on the Liaison with Public Offices Committee, which provides information and maintains relations with all public offices reasonably affected by a proposal from the Commission. In addition, he is president of the Akron/Canton Barristers Association.
Additional information about the seminar is available by phone (330-263-2044) or e-mail (email@example.com).
