Dominic Rizzo, Sr. was born in Akron on May 16, 1927. He developed deep Italian roots from his parents, who were both born in a little town called Finocchito, in the Campania region of Italy.
He married his dear wife, Vi, on Nov. 8, 1947, and they will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary this year. They had four boys, and their family has grown to include 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Dominic worked diligently for McKesson Drug Company as a salesman to hospitals and retired from there in 1989 with 47 years service. He joined the Unione Abruzzese Society (now the Italian Center) in April 1977 and has been a member for 35 years. During that time he held various officer positions and served on many committees, including his most recent position as Acting Manager of the Restaurante Abruzzi weekly spaghetti dinner.
He also is a past member and past President of the Council of Italian-American Societies, and has always been active in the Italian community. His strong work ethic and dependability make him an inspiration and respected role model in the community, and to all those around him.
