You can get a preview of the not-yet-open Crave Cantina — offering “global tacos” — at the Falls Better Block on the Front Street mall in Cuyahoga Falls today and tomorrow.

Falls Better Block -- featuring pop-up businesses, food vendors and live music —  will run from 5 to 11 p.m. today ( Friday) and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, Aug. 27).

The Better Block includes pop-ups, such as Crave Cantina, along with brick-and-mortar joints on the mall, including Cashmere Cricket, Flury’s Cafe and Metropolis Popcorn.

Food trucks and carts on hand will include Beef & Barley and Winky's Water Ice.

Crave Cantina boasts on its Facebook page that its Falls Better Block menu will include soft tacos featuring brisket —-smoked for eight hours —  kimchi and Korean BBQ sauces. Also on the menu: chorizo tacos with caramelized onions and peppers, goat cheese and crema verde; and “spicy maple syrup pork belly roasted tacos with mango and pickled vegetables.”

Crave, the 11-year-old downtown Akron restaurant known for its creative, moderately priced food, is planning to open Crave Cantina at 2097 Front St. on the mall next spring.

The decades-old Front Street building most recently housed Firehouse Grille & Pub, which closed last year.

The Falls Better Block event — modeled after successful Better Blocks in Akron — is designed to show the potential of the underused Front Street pedestrian mall and will feature pop-up businesses, food vendors and live music.

Organizers began planning Falls Better Block before the city revealed plans to reopen the mall to two-way traffic by 2018.
