The Record-Courier reports that two school buildings in Kent will shut down at the end of the school year.

The Board of Education members approved the closure of Franklin Elementary School and the former Central School location at their meeting on Tuesday. Franklin holds kindergarten through fifth grade while the Central School building has been used for other programs since its closure as an elementary school in 2000.

In an automated call to parents on Wednesday night, Principal Todd Poole explained, “Details will be shared with parents as they become available. I know that this comes as a shock to many, and it is not easy.”
