The “Beginners” part of our group name should hint that few, if any, of us are gearing up to run a full marathon in this year’s Akron Marathon Race Series. (Actually, we’ve got one member who’s killing it and might get there!)

But we do have several folks who are hoping to run or walk a half marathon at the August or September race, and after that, who knows! We might have some marathoners in the making.

If you want to get inspired about the possibility, the Akron Marathon is hosting the last of three community meetings - this one specifically for those who want to learn about what it takes to run 26.2 miles. It’s this Thursday (May 18) at 6 p.m. in the community room at Acme Fresh Market in Montrose, 3979 Medina Road.

The last two meetings were for beginning walkers and new short-distance runners, and they offered everything from training plans to nutrition to motivational speakers. So if there is the possibility of a marathon in your future, check it out. I promise you’ll learn some things you haven’t even thought to ask.

If you want to check in on the Facebook event page, it’s here:

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to lace up and go put my 3 miles in :)
