Drillers in Ohio's Utica shale must track the number of jobs going to Ohioans and non-residents.

That provision was part of the state's new drilling law approved by the Ohio Legislature and signed by Gov. John Kasich.

The job-tracking provision was pushed by State Sen. Lou Gentile, D-Steubenville.

It was the only amendment by a Democrat to be added to the bill.

The amendment, called Ohio Workers First, requires the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services to track hiring of residents and non-residents and to create an annual report, says Marcellus Drilling News.

The goal of the amendment is to show improved economic results from drilling but also to put pressure on the industry to hire more Ohioans, it said.
