For the second year, Akron area young professionals can go to a conference aimed at inspiring them to get involved in the region.
The second biennial Young Professionals Summit — titled Breaking the Mold — will be from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 18 at the Sheraton Suites Akron/Cuyahoga Falls at 1989 Front Street in the Falls.
“This half-day conference is for any young professional looking to step out of the box and bring new energy to our region,” said the event’s sponsor, the Greater Akron Chamber, in a news release.
The keynote address will be delivered by Jen Welter, the first woman to coach in the National Football League, and the closing speaker will be University of Akron President Matthew J. Wilson, who took over the university’s top job after the resignation of President Scott Scarborough.
Welter became an assistant coach for the Arizona Cardinals in 2015, coaching inside linebackers at their training camp and preseason.
Earlier this year, she was named head coach of Team Australia for the 2017 International Federation of American Football Women’s World Championship.
The conference also will feature two identical breakout sessions so attendees can catch two panels. According to the chamber, the sessions are:
* Take It Personally: Attendees will participate in an interactive “personal branding exercise” to develop an online persona and learn how to “leverage their brand” through social media.
* Boom to Z: Generations in the Workplace: Panelists will seek to break down the stereotypes of three different generations and discuss how they handle situations differently – or similarly – in the workplace.
* Mentoring: Attendees will learn about finding mentors and the benefits of mentor/mentee relationships and why it is important to stay engaged with a mentor.
* Passion: Find It. Follow It. Keep It: Three speakers will share their journeys of turning their passions into entrepreneurial ventures.
An after party will run from 4:15 to 6 p.m. in the Cascade Overlook at the hotel.
Appetizers will be provided. A cash bar will be available.
Cost of the conference is $50, including lunch. Table sponsorships are available.
