U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson on Wednesday told energy industry leaders and environmentalists that hydraulic fracturing or fracking can be done without harmful impacts.
Speaking at a conference in New Jersey, Jackson said, "I think that fracking as a technology is perfectly capable of being clean."
Her comments at the Richard Stockton College energy conference were among the strongest from Jackson in support of fracking.
She added the the drilling for natural gas presents "an historic opportunity" for energy development and job creation, the Asbury park Press reported.
