FirstEnergy Corp. of Akron has added $15 million to its FirstEnergy Foundation, bringing its total funds to nearly $50 million.

Since 2001, using both principal and interest, the foundation has made grants of more than $62 million across FirstEnergy’s service area and in communities where the company does business.

The foundation “has been a source of tremendous pride for the company, making grants to worthy causes and organizations across our service areas and in communities where we do business,” said Charles E. Jones, president and chief executive officer of FirstEnergy.

Those who wish to apply for grants are encouraged to discuss grant inquiries with local managers at FirstEnergy companies.
