FirstMerit Corp.’s senior executives, board members and institutional shareholders got a 26 percent boost to their stock holdings following Monday’s announcement that Huntington Bancshares is buying the Akron banking firm.



The vast majority of FirstMerit shares — about 80 percent — are owned by institutions such as pension funds, mutual funds and investment firms.



FirstMerit’s board of directors and top executives collectively own about 1.5 percent of the Akron banking company, according to company records.
